WordStream’s State of the Internet Marketing Agency in 2020 report arrived last week, offering insights into the challenges and opportunities faced by today’s digital ad agencies. Of the hundreds of agencies WordStream surveyed in the United States, Canada, the UK, and elsewhere, 64 per cent had fewer than 10 employees and only 10 per cent had more than 50. Despite this, 26 per cent of agencies serviced more than 50 clients. This speaks to the tireless work required to sustain a successful internet marketing agency, and to the low rate of client turnover among agencies that deliver positive ROI. Pay-per-click advertising and social media were the two services that digital agencies were most likely offer, followed by content, SEO, website development, and landing page creation/optimization. Google (94 per cent) and Facebook (91 per cent) were the platforms used by the highest percentage of agencies, followed by Instagram (79 per cent), LinkedIn (57 per cent) and YouTube (44 per cent). Thirty-one per cent of agencies advertised on Microsoft/Bing and just 16 per cent used Amazon.
